Knowledge

What is an E-Chopper?

An E-Chopper (also written electric chopper or e-scooter) is an electrically powered moped with a classic cruiser look: wide tires, low seating position, relaxed posture. Unlike classic electric scooters, you sit upright and relaxed – like on a chopper, but quiet and emission-free.

Legally, an E-Chopper with 45 km/h belongs to vehicle class L1e. This means: road approval, insurance plate, and a class AM driver's license – which every car driver's license (class B) automatically includes. A helmet is mandatory, but you never have to visit a registration office.

All E-Choppers at E-Streetbikes are delivered with COC papers and CE certification and are immediately ready to ride. All you need is an insurance plate – available from any vehicle insurance company for about 3 to 6 euros per month.

The removable battery is charged at any standard power outlet. This makes the electric chopper the ideal alternative to mopeds, scooters, and second cars: for commuting to work, city trips, or relaxed weekend tours – optionally with matching accessories like saddlebags or phone holders.

Frequently Asked Questions

Buying an E-Chopper: The most important questions

What driver's license do I need for an E-Chopper with 45 km/h?

For an E-Chopper with 45 km/h, a Class AM driver's license is sufficient. Every car driver's license (Class B) automatically includes Class AM – so anyone who can drive a car can also drive an E-Chopper.

Does an E-Chopper have road approval?

Yes. All E-Choppers at E-Streetbikes have EU road approval (vehicle class L1e) and are supplied with COC papers. You only need an insurance plate, which any motor vehicle insurance company will issue.

How fast does an electric chopper go?

Our electric choppers go up to 45 km/h – the maximum permissible speed for vehicle class L1e. This allows you to keep up with city traffic smoothly and ride wherever mopeds and scooters are permitted.

What is the range of an E-Chopper?

The range depends on the model, battery size, weight, and riding style. The battery is removable and can be charged at any standard power outlet. The exact ranges can be found on the product pages of Aero Pro, City and HL 6.0.

What is the difference between an E-Chopper and an electric scooter?

An electric scooter has a footboard and a compact, upright design. An E-Chopper features the classic cruiser look with wide tires, a long wheelbase, and a relaxed seating position. Legally, both are considered mopeds at 45 km/h – the difference lies in the riding feel and design.

Is a helmet compulsory for E-Choppers?

Yes, a helmet is compulsory for E-Choppers with 45 km/h in Germany – as with all mopeds. An approved motorcycle helmet or jet helmet is sufficient.
